EZ-Quote!
(c) 1988 by Cat Miller
OTW Software
13610 N. Scottsdale Road
Suite 10-146
Scottsdale, Arizona 85254
EZ-Quote! provides a quote, quip, joke, anecdote or Bible verse at
a predetermined interval to each BBS caller. It does this by
creating a text file containing a randomly selected passage from a
master library file. This text file can then be used by SysOps to
create script files that display at logon or log off or bulletins.
EZ-Quote! will work with a variety of BBS software.
This program was written because of the lack of a reliable,
versatile program of this type.
The following files are included in the .ARC file:
EZQuote.Doc..................This file
EZQuote.Exe..................EZ-Quote!
Quote.Cnf....................Example configuration file
EZQuote.Txt..................Example quote file
Quote.Cnf
---------
This is the configuration file used by EZQuote.Exe to determine
paths, filenames and the type of bulletin board you will be
using.
A configuration file may look like this:
C:\PCB\
C:\PCB\GEN\
Quotes.Txt
PCBoard
The first line tells EZ-Quote! where to find EZQuote.Txt.
EZQuote.Txt is an ASCII text file containing your library of
quotes or verses that can be created using your favorite word
processor or text editor. Details about this file will follow.
Notice the ending back slash. This is necessary. EZ-Quote! does
not use defaults. You must specify drive and path in the config
file.
The second line tells EZ-Quote! where to save the text file.
Again, the drive and full path with the ending back slash is
necessary.
The third line indicates the filename of the text you want
EZ-Quote! to save. This is the text file that is used by your
BBS program, i.e. SCRIPT0 will provide a logoff quote on PCBoard.
The fourth line is the type of BBS you are running. This option
was included so that EZ-Quote! would prefix the written text with
a semi-colon for PCBoard type files. Enter PCBoard here if you
are running PCBoard version 12.x.
The name of the config file can be anything you wish, provided it
meets the syntax requirements above.
EZQuote.Txt
-----------
This is the library text file which holds all the quotations.
Each quotation must be separated by an * (asterisk). An * must
be the very first character at the beginning of the file and the
last character at the end of the file. Please refer to the
example file included with this ARC package for a better
understanding of this. Quotations may have multiple lines.
Running EZ-Quote!
-----------------
At the DOS prompt type EZQuote <filename>.Cnf. Substitute
<filename>.Cnf with the name of your configuration file. The
configuration file must be in the same directory as
EZQuote.Exe.
Limitations
-----------
EZQuote.Txt must be 100 lines or less including the *'s.
Notes and more examples
-----------------------
EZ-Quote! is currently being used on a BBS running PCBoard v.
12.1. The config file being used there is as follows:
C:\PCB\GEN\
C:\PCB\GEN\
Script0
PCBoard
As it is configured above, the EZQuote.Txt file is located in
the \Gen directory. The file Script0 is created by EZ-Quote! and
saved in PCBoard format in the \Gen dir. Thus, when a caller logs
off of this board Script0 is invoked and the contents are printed
to screen. To have a different quote file everyday place
EZQuote.Exe in your EVENT.SYS file.
